How Gopuff is helping its team tackle the cost-of-living crisis

Gopuff is a pioneer of the instant delivery scene. Delivering thousands of last-minute items – from food to tech to toiletries – a day across the US and UK, the UK platform came to Collective Benefits earlier this year with a simple mission:
To make a genuine difference to its team in the face of the cost-of-living crisis.
Fast forward a few months and the Gopuff X Collective Benefits partnership has already reaped fantastic results. The benefits programme has had excellent engagement and feedback from both Gopuff’s delivery partners and store team members, with a really high uptake of deals, discounts and fuel cards. Nice!
Let’s take a closer look 👀
What Gopuff needed
Gopuff needed a platform that could help them make a real impact for their delivery partners and store team members in the face of sky-rocketing fuel prices and inflation. They wanted to:
Show their delivery partners and store team members they care about supporting them in these difficult times
Make sure their delivery partners could afford fuel to work, and that the cost of fuel wasn’t eating too much into their earnings
Help their delivery partners and store team members save money and protect themselves against the cost of living crisis more effectively
Why Gopuff chose Collective Benefits
When Gopuff came across Collective Benefits, they realised our platform ticked all the right boxes.
“When we looked at solutions in the market, we realised early on that Collective Benefits was our natural partner,” Matt Grose, Delivery Operations Programme Manager at Gopuff explains.
“One of the reasons for that was because Collective Benefits has many programmes dedicated to on-demand workers built specifically for their needs. They deeply understand the typical delivery driver and the markets that they serve.” Take a look at what he had to say here 👇
Some of those big ‘ticks’ were for:
The Collective Benefits fuel programme, which gives the team a discount at major fuel brands
The flexibility of the Collective Benefits platform, which suited the variability Gopuff sees with its delivery partners and store team members
The wide range of savings offered by the Collective Benefits programme, which is tailored specifically to what flexible workers want
The impact: worker engagement
Gopuff was really impressed with the immediate impact of the Collective Benefits programme. Within the first week, over 200 fuel cards were approved which, with an average saving of £200 per card, could lead to £40,000 annual savings in total.
Gopuff also saw very strong engagement with deals and discounts early on.
“One week after the initial invitations were sent out we saw over 3000 deals redeemed by both field workers and delivery partners,” Matt says.
“We’re looking to expand this and we’re very excited about the impact Collective Benefits will help Gopuff make.”
The impact: feedback from the team
A great example of where one of the perks is making a really meaningful difference is with our Transferwise partnership.
Collective Benefits members are guaranteed the lowest rates with Transferwise – a benefit that’s received excellent feedback from Gopuff delivery partners and store team members.
“With many of our teams having family members abroad, we’ve been hearing about how this benefit has been really impactful for not only our workers but their families as well,” says Matt, speaking about how many of Gopuff’s workers frequently send money around the world.
As well as high worker engagement with the programme, Gopuff’s also been impressed by:
How quick and easy the Collective Benefits programme was to set up
How simple the product is for end-users, with plain English so those without English as a first language can fully understand their perks
The mobile-optimised Collective Benefits app – Gopuff has had zero reports of bugs or glitches from workers
“When Gopuff set up with Collective Benefits it was a super-simple process. It probably only took an hour or two maximum out of our week,” Matt says.
“Collective benefits also handled all of the comms and invite process expertly, hence our very strong early engagement [...] It’s been a very smooth roll-out process and from the engagement we’re seeing it’s clear that members are coming back and are enjoying the experience with Collective Benefits.”
Job well done, we’d say!
